BOAT YARD BLUES

Oct. 24-27 - Shortly after our arrival, Jay and Nancy Watlington from Oak Ridge, TN had their sailboat Serendipity hauled out to redo their bottom.  During their four nights in the yard, we became friends and shared "the joys of boat yard maintenance!"  The night before they left, we invited them over for dinner aboard Omega.  We hope to see them again down the waterway in the coming weeks.

On the 24th, we had the bottom sandblasted which created a "royal blue" mess under, around, and all over Omega.  Char swept and shoveled sand for several days.  The rain made it even worse as you can imagine.  We're not sure Omega will ever be totally white again!!

                                                                          

When it wasn't raining, Bill was under the boat sanding and grinding the bottom which had multiple coats of blue paint on it.  He wore a respirator mask, sunglasses to cover his eyes, jeans, several layers of long-sleeved tops, and had his head covered with a shower cap and a pull-down knit hat.  Even with all this protection, he was blue from head to top including his eyelashes!!  We call him the "Blue Smurf!"
