June 7 - We continued on north to Tarpon Springs where we stayed at the Landings marina. It was Sunday, and there were many boats on the waterway. At one place we saw 16 jet skis enjoying themselves.
June 8 - A big day for us...we left Tarpon Springs at 8:20 AM headed for Crystal River. It was a beautiful day with very little wind and calm seas, so about 1 PM, we decided to change course and head for Dog Island in the Florida Panhandle near Carrabelle. Around dinner time, the wind began to pick up, and the waves started to increase. You might know! The weather prognosticators goofed again! There was a beautiful sunset that night.
We cruised through the night with the wind and waves hitting us just off our port bow. It was like riding a hobby horse for the next 8-9 hours with the wind as high as 20 knots. Our radar was working off and on, and naturally it wasn't working during our night crossing. We anchored at Shipping Cove just off Dog Island at 4:30 AM - 20 hours of cruising and 177 miles. We were thankful to have it behind us.
June 9 - We spent the next day and a half at anchor relaxing and enjoying the beautiful scenery around us on Dog Island.
June 10 - We went into Carrabelle where we stayed at the Moorings Marina. Our good friend, Sally Higgins, drove over from Tallahassee to spend the night with us on Omega.
Sally and Charlotte have been good friends since they were in the sixth grade. We always enjoy her visits. We went to 2 Al's for dinner...quite a unique little place! You won't find a more reasonable place to eat anywhere - a seafood basket with fries and cole slaw for $6.99. They also had Prime Rib for $10.99. Below is a photo of 2 Al's World Headquarters!
The following morning, we went to Hog Wild for breakfast where we found pigs, pigs, and more pigs. Good food, too!
