DEMOPOLIS, ALABAMA TO COLUMBUS, MISSISSIPPI

June 23 - We left mid-morning and continued north on the Tenn-Tom passing some lovely scenery, especially the white cliffs near Epes, Alabama.

Went through the Heflin lock without delay.

Anchored at Cochrane Cut-off, which was a very nice anchorage.  We enjoyed cooling off in the water before dinner.

June 24 - Another early start at dawn so we could get to Columbus Marina as early as possible.  We left Alabama and crossed in Mississippi mid-morning.  Saw an unusual sight along the waterway.  It's hard to find a phone booth in the middle of town, but here's one out in the middle of nowhere!

Went through two more locks with ease.

It was interesting to watch the offloading of cargo from a tow to a truck.

Alan and Susann on KAOS were at the marina to welcome us as well as "T" Caldwell, the manager.
Columbus Marina is very nice with a restaurant on the premises.

It was a joy to have AC once again as it was still really hot!  We went into town in the marina courtesy car to reprovision.  Upon our return, Bill spotted a gorgeous classic Trumpy yacht (Aurora) that had arrived while we were away.  He met the owner, Jacob Deegan, from Houston, TX and enjoyed talking to him about Aurora.  Jacob invited us to come aboard which we did after enjoying dinner with Alan and Susann Syme.

What a beautiful yacht she is!!!  Jacob has spent six years restoring her and used 16 different exotic hardwoods inside.  What a thrill it was for us to see her.

June 25 - What a surprise we had this morning...the boat was literally covered with May flies, big winged bugs that only live for 24 hours.  They were everywhere, all over the marina building, in the air, everywhere!  What a mess!!  We decided to hang out here another day.  Bill changed the oil in the generator; we caught up on e-mail and Internet activities and just relaxed a bit.  A neat paddle wheel steamer (Columbia) joined us at the transient dock.
