CARRABELLE TO DESTIN

June 11 - We left the Moorings Marina and headed west toward Appalachicola.

As we crossed Appalachicola Bay, we saw a number of boaters poling, but we don't know what they were after.

We anchored for the night at California Bayou about 12 miles east of Panama City.  A bald eagle flew ahead of us for miles that afternoon.  He would land in a tree and as soon as we got close to where he was perched, he'd take off ahead to another perch.

June 12 - We continued west on the Gulf Coast Intracoastal Waterway towards Panama City.  The dolphins had a ball swimming in our wake on both sides of Omega and at the bow all at the same time!

We passed our first tow in the Panama City area; also saw a shrimp boat and another vessel under tow.

We passed through an area called the Grand Canyon - pretty scenery.

We arrived at Destin that Friday afternoon and found many folks on many boats enjoying themselves.  We anchored in the middle of the harbor for the weekend, and we were surrounded by boats of every size, shape, and description.  There were at least six sightseeing boats that frequently circled aound the harbor loaded with people.  We probably could have delivered their narrative ourselves by the end of the weekend.  It was a zoo, but fun!

There were numerous places to eat and neat places to shop along the waterfront, but unfortunately there was only one restaurant where you could tie up a tender while eating.  All of the waterfront had been turned into permanent sli;ps for large vesselses.  There were many big sport fish yachts there.  We enjoyed several beautiful sunsets at Destin.
