Nov. 3 - Hooray! We are heading downstream on the Tenn-Tom toward Mobile, Al. It's a great cruising day with quite a bit of current which giving us a boost to about 11 mph. The colors of autumn are all around. We had to wait for about an hour to get through Whitten lock, but fortunately made it through the other four without delay. We anchored above Wilkins Lock just about sunset. There are lots of boats on the waterway all headed south.
Nov. 4 - We got ahead of the pack by starting at sunrise. As a result of the record-setting rains in the past month, flooding was observed; the water was rushing over the Wilkins Dam.
We caught up with our Goose Pond Marina friends on SeaSea at Aberdeen Lock. It was good to see them again.
We stopped at Columbus Marina to have lunch with Don and Rosie Peck aboard Just Rosie. We had become friends when they stopped at Goose Pond in late September. Had a great visit and delightful lunch. Don and Rosie were planning to leave Just Rosie there at Columbus and return home to Spring, TX for the holidays.
As we approached Stennis Lock, we saw two very small boats waiting to lock through. One was Dalomar, a 15 ft. red and white boat from Peoria, IL and the other was Adventure, a 14 ft. sailboat from Iowa. Each of them had a very small outboard motor. Adventure was headed for Florida and then up to Maine while Dalomar was doing the Loop. We anchored at Hairston Ben Cutoff; shortly before sunset, they caught up with us and came into the anchorage. Amazing! There was one man in each boat and they rafted together for the night.
