GOOSE POND TO CEDAR MOUNTAIN

Sept. 8 -- After our great month at Goose Pond, we said a fond farewell to the marina staff and headed upstream toward Chattanooga. It was a beautiful cruising day and the scenery was the same.
This area was inhabited by a hostile group of Cherokees known as the Chicamaugas. They made life very dangerous for anyone passing by this area back in the 1700's.
At Mile 424, we passed through Nickajack Lock, the newest in TVA's navigational sysem (1967). Nickajack Lake above the dam (elev. 634') is 74 miles long and encompasses some of the most spectacular scenery on the Tennessee River. There are few anchorages and fewer marinas in this section, so we dropped our hook for the evening 2.4 miles above the lock at Cedar Mountain. Wow! What a neat spot!
Our photos don't really begin to capture the awesome beauty; nevertheless, we post a few below to share with you.
